V7 1. So what do you write? What crews do you represent?

SKER –  I write SKER ONE and I push SLUTS, WAI!

V7 2. How long have you been writing for? What got you into it?

SKER - 2. How long is a tuff one, got my feet wet around 93-94 but don’t really count those days Cus I was taggin stop signs and had no knowledge of shit, just seen it around my town and thought it was cool. Tags, gang graffiti, etc… I would say 96- 97 is when I got more comfortable with lettering and started ruining my life! At the time I was in Orange County Ca and lived near the 5fwy and would see the trains off Brookhurst, seeing names like FEAR, DOVE, BIG5 to name a few were a major influence for me to get things in motion.

V7 3. You travel bit, how is the graff scene different from state to state and how is it the same?

SKER - I’ve traveled a bit but am doing more so the older I’m getting. Coming from L.A. We would travel within the state. San Diego, San Francisco etc…traveling now is a Lil easier now due to having funds in my pocket and having friends move to other states. Last year I took a trip with my boy OMEX to Seattle Wa. to visit our brother YUK and did some work then shortly after went down to San Antonio Tx. with SWAB and OMEX to rock with the RTD’s. As for this year have plans to go to New York to meet up with DOVE and also a SLC Ut. to rock with PESO. Trying to stay as active as possible while maintains my “real life”. Me being in Ok. now I need to travel to keep my sanity! My boy FEAR is also coming out to rock with me next month, stay tuned for that…
As for how they differ state to state I mean coming up on the west coast we had a lot of hurdles to jump as far as “Johnny law” and neighbor hoods, to Heros and snitches. Now being in the mid west it’s a Lil more laid back but it’s no picnic here either. That’s what I love about it, if it was easy everyone would be on it. Guess I was just fortunate to hook up with the right people where ever I landed and adapt to my surroundings.

V7 4. If you could pick one night were shit just wasn’t right and things got fucked when you were bombing, does anything come to mind?

SKER –   Well getting chased can sure make a night go to shit, I’ve got a few stories for that but for the most part when I was still in LA we pretty much stuck to the trains. That’s my favorite canvas. It wasn’t really til I moved out of state and hooked up with CTD that I got back into bombing. My boy BOWZER deffinantly keeps me motivated as far as staying consistent. Every now and then I would be at the yard drunk and forget tips or an outline color would blow up on me but other than that nothing comes to mind.

V7 5. What makes a writer a “writer” ? What are some of the unwritten rules to live by?

SKER - I make me a writer! Some people can sing or dance, I’m good at fucking shit up! It takes nuts to be a writer, the unwritten rules are unwritten for a reason. It’s common sense and comes with age and experience and knowledge of the game. I chose this life, and met great friends along the way. Many stories good and bad. It ain’t for everyone, we see shit in another light and see things most will never see. That’s what makes me a writer.

V7 6. If you could tell the next generation of graffiti artist anything about this life, what would it be? Speak to those who are just starting out, those who are in the first years of graff?

SKER - Know your fucking history!

V7  7. What are your favorite spots to paint, ie: trains, billboards, yards, street spots?

SKER - TRAINS always trains but I paint street spots and hit yards but trains are where it’s at for me!

V7 8. If you could paint with anyone in the world, someone you havent met yet, who would it be?

SKER-  Not to sound like and arrogant fuck but im cool just painting with my crews. Maybe heads who aren’t with us anymore. DONDI, NACE, PHOTO, GINSU, etc…

v7 9 .Have you ever thought about doing anything in the way of shirt companies or design on a professional level?

SKER-I’ve done work over the years for various clothing lines. I was working on getting my degree in graphic design. I’m always down to shoot art work to support homies lines.

V7 10.  What do you think the future of graffiti will be like? In about 100 years?

SKER- Fuck who knows. There are millions of writers now, I don’t see it stopping I just see penalties getting stiffer. 100 yrs from now we’ll be long gone. Ive seen it change so much through the 90′s to now I’m curious to see what the next decade has to offer.

V7 11. Ever think about doing any art shows?

SKER- I’ll contribute to art shows but have never considered doing my own. However I do have plans of having one to display the local artist in Tulsa Ok. Theres some raw shit out here in the midwest!

V7 12. Has getting older effected the way you look at graffiti, compared to when you were young?

SKER- My view have deffinantly changed. It’s a lot different when you have bills to pay and a job to maintain. I’ll still get the spots but I’m not as careless about it these days.

V7 13. Beef is something that every body has too go through in the lifestyle. Ever had any? How should it be handled?

SKER- I’ve had my share of beefs over the years, comes with the territory. I was more of a hot head when I was younger but now I try and let more slide.

V7 14. What kind of paint is your favorite to use? What kind of tips?

SKER-  Rusto with a rusto fat. Obviously now that Montana is available I use that too. Also like fresh paint but for bombing nothing beats a Krylon Ultra Flat Black with a fatcap!

V7 15. Any kind of music get you hyped to go out?

SKER-  Justin Timberlake “Cry me a river” that shit gets me amped!

V7 16.  HAha Ultra lat Black with a fatcap! That was the shit, it’s a shame the new gen won’t get to experience that! Speaking of back in the days, is there anything you miss about doing graff back then? Is there anything you wish you take from now and have that tool back in the 90′s?

SKER-  I miss everything about those times mostly my youth. Graffiti was fun. Coming from LA it’s a sink or swim life. I know a lot of older heads hate the whole Internet generation but if we had all this access that we have now we would have takin full advantage. I miss having to go rack tips and having to mail flicks state to state to see other writers (we did have mags in the 90s) but I’m glad I can go to my boys shop and buy everything I need in 1 stop. I don’t hate on the next generation if anything I feel bad for all they missed out on. We would skate all day and bus hop just to write on shit and take flicks with my disposable cam. Writers benches etc…. You kids are just lazy!!

V7 17.   Any plans to travel outside Northern America? Germany? Europe? I’m sure you know alot of homies too whom have taken this shit global, anything in the books?

SKER- Right now I’m traveling to a few different states visiting crew mates and painting, as for out of country nothing in the works for me right now but I’m sure one day I will. Gotta be careful where u go. Fuck around and get cained or lose a limb in some countries!
